Small Hotels
of St. Lucia
St. Lucia is really two very different
experiences on one very unique island.
The northern half of the island centers
around Rodney Bay and features hotels and resorts catering to the
'beach, sun and sand' vacation market. You'll find lots of mid to
large-scale, all-inclusive resorts that cover every type of holiday from
budget to super-luxury. These resorts and a few small hotels will
remind you of modern resorts on other islands. If you want nightlife,
easier driving and more shopping - then Rodney Bay is for you....
In the south, you'll find a completely
different attitude. With Soufriere as its center, access is limited by
roads that are greatly improved in recent years, but still a challenge
for many tourists. Hotels and boutique resorts are small, intimate,
eco-sensitive and often family owned and operated. The south has a
definite 'old Caribbean' feel where you may not find all the comforts of
home... but you'll find the unique culture and friendly people with less
influence from the modern world. Towns are small and without the 'Disneyfication'
of so many of today's tourist destinations. You won't find chain hotels,
fast food outlets, coffee shops or shopping malls. You will find the
amazing Pitons, the sulphur-spewing 'drive-through' volcano (which
really does smell like rotten eggs) and the botanical gardens/falls.
Both parts are easily accessible for day
trips no matter where you stay - so make sure to experience as much as
possible. A day trip where you drive one way and take a boat back is
just about the perfect way to experience this amazing Caribbean island.

Anse Chastanet
- Soufriere |
|
What were Caribbean hotels like before trade winds were replaced
by blasts of air conditioning, when morning exercise was a walk
on the beach and not hot water aerobics, and when you sat
watching the sunset instead of cable TV? You can still find out
at Anse Chastanet Resort on St Lucia’s unspoiled southwestern
Caribbean coast.
Hillside units designed in harmony with nature, complement the
island’s natural beauty which has remained his focal point.
6OO-acre site is a lush garden of tropical foliage bordering one
of the island’s best beaches where soft silver sands dip into
the clear turquoise waters of the Caribbean.

Mago Estate Hotel
- Soufriere |
|
"Mago" is the local St.
Lucian word for "Mango" and the hotel sits among the Mango trees
at the edge of the rain forest above the town of Soufriere.
Mago has one of the
best views of the Pitons from every room - but the open design
of many rooms means that noise can be an issue for the eco-rooms
and suites when the breeze blows up from town. Especially on
weekends when there is a 'party' on the beach with music late
into the night... Great if you want to party in your room, but
not the peace and quiet you might expect from an eco-resort. Try
the 'value rooms' and bring ear plugs - the views from your room
and pool are great!
